Ghaziabad, July 10 (IANS) A nine-year-old girl and her two-year-old brother were critically injured when they were hit by a speeding Maruti car in Ghaziabad Friday evening, police said. Their parents have alleged the car was being driven by a close relative of a senior Uttar Pradesh official.
Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar told IANS Friday night: “We are going to register a case in the incident and the culprits will be booked.”

The two children - Savita and Rohit - were standing on the roadside near Kavi Nagar Ramlila Grounds when a speeding Maruti 800 car came and hit them with great impact.

According to parents of the children and eyewitnesses, the car was being driven by 23-year-old Rashi Jain, daughter of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam Executive Engineer Y.K. Jain and a kin of Meerut District Judge A.K. Jain. Rashi stays in D-Block, Shastri Nagar.

The children were taken to Sarvodaya Hospital in Kavi Nagar. The girl Rashi also received minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

Sources in the hospital said two-year-old Rohit had suffered multiple fractures and a serious injury to his head. He was in critical condition till filing of the story. His sister, Savita, was also serious but her injuries were less severe.

The children’s father Prem lal, who hails from Chhattisgarh, told IANS: “I am very concerned about the health of my children. My wife saw the car, which was being driven by the girl, come at great speed and hit the children. She is in a state of shock.”

However, police denied that Rashi Jain was at the wheels during the accident.

An official at the Kavi Nagar police station said, “The car was being driven by a man. It is he who was at fault and not the girl.”

Another official said: “We have not received any written complaint in the case. The matter is being investigated.”
