Two kidnapped Gurgaon students rescued
September 11th, 2009 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSGurgaon, Sep 11 (IANS) In a dramatic rescue, police from Haryana’s Gurgaon, Rohtak and Jhajjar districts were able to free two students within hours of their kidnapping from this city, police said Friday.
The kidnappers, two of whom have been arrested by the Gurgaon police, had demanded a ransom of Rs.50 million (Rs.5 crore) from the family of the two to release them, Gurgaon police officials said here.
The boys, who are brothers aged 12 and 13 years and sons of a businessman father and a working mother, were kidnapped Thursday morning from Sector 14 here when their family driver went to drop them at their school-bus stop in the family’s Toyota Innova car.
The four kidnappers, aged between 20-25 years, knew about the family and its luxurious lifestyle and hatched a conspiracy to kidnap the brothers. They hijacked the car and drove the boys to Kanhaili village in Rohtak district, where the two brothers were kept in a house.
A Haryana police spokesman said the police swung into action after being informed of the kidnapping and were able to know their location late Thursday evening.
As the police cordoned off the village, the abductors, who were trying to shift the students to another place, tried to flee.
After night-long searches, the police were able to rescue the boys and arrest two kidnappers, Sachin Rathee and Shiv Kumar alias Bittoo. A country-made pistol and a knife were seized from them.
While Kumar worked in the same company as the boys’ mother, an unemployed graduate Rathee used to visit him in that office.
“We are trying to nab two other kidnappers, Sunil and Anil of Betia district in Bihar. These youth committed the crime due to their lure for easy money,” a police official said.
“It is suspected that the mastermind behind the incident is some fifth person, who may be from Bihar. This will be established only after interrogation of the accused,” the police official added.
The police were able to recover the Toyota Innova also.
