Two injured after road caves in on BRT corridor
August 2nd, 2009 - 1:14 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) Two men were injured in the capital early Sunday morning after their motor-bike fell into a big pothole in the middle of the road near Moolchand flyover on the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor.
A short stretch of the BRT corridor from Defence Colony to Lajpat Nagar caved in Saturday-Sunday night as the mud below the road turned soft following underground water seepage.
Both Amit and Santosh fell into the crater while crossing the BRT as they were returning from work.
The injured bike riders were admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre and are undergoing treatment.
According to police, both are still unconscious.
“We have still not registered a complaint in this case. The road caved in around 2 a.m. The traffic on the section is closed for repair work. The traffic is being managed,” said a police official.
The BRT has been constructed especially for the 2010 Commonwealth Games being held in New Delhi.
