Two held with deer antlers in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jan 11 (IANS) Two men were arrested with 10 pieces of deer antlers Wednesday in Chhattisgarh, police said.The arrests were made in Abhanpur area in Raipur district, some 45 km from here.

The two men, Rain Singh Dhruv, 28, and Panku Kumar, 31, were caught at a bus stand when policemen acted as decoy customers and struck a deal with them at Rs.100,000 for 10 pieces of deer antlers, R.K. Sahu, in-charge of the police crime branch, told reporters. He said arrests were made under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.

Police suspect that a gang of poachers is active in wildlife-rich Sihawa forested belt in Dhamtari district where the two accused had probably killed deer for smuggling antlers.
