Two held for snatching phones from elderly people

New Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) Two people who routinely snatched mobile phones from elderly people in the capital have been arrested, police said Tuesday. The arrested have been identified as Gopi Chand, 24, and Mukesh, 20, both residents of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh.

“They were held Feb 12 after an 82-year-old man raised a alarm when the two were trying to flee after snatching a mobile phone from him at Jama Masjid area in central Delhi,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Kishore.

During interrogation, the duo told police that they targetted old people and stole their belongings, especially mobile phones.

“They operate in trains also and dispose of the stolen articles at their native place,” said the officer.
