Two held for robbing Delhi jewellery shops
March 16th, 2011 - 7:34 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 16 (IANS) Two people were arrested from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh for robbing jewellery shops in Delhi, police said Wednesday.
The arrested men were identified as Mohammad Sabir and Mohammad Anis.
According to police, Sabir was involved in robbing Gambhir jewellers in Krishna Nagar in east Delhi Feb 23, during which shop owner Gaurav Gambhir was killed.
Three others involved in the heist are still onthe run and untraced, police added.
Anis was arrested for robbery at Padmini jewellers in the same market Feb 1. Sabir was also involved in this robbery, police said.
The duo belong to the Salim gang based in Lucknow.
“The gang has been involved in 18-19 cases of robbery and murder. The two arrested were brought before a magistrate (in Delhi) today (Wednesday),” O.P. Mishra, deputy commissioner of police (east), said at a press conference.
