Two held for kidnapping, killing lawyer’s son
November 26th, 2011 - 12:32 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) A 28-year-old employee of the Bureau of Indian Standards, the son of a senior advocate, was abducted and murdered by two acquaintances after they failed to extort money from him. They have been arrested, police said.
Rohit Ahlawat was found dead in Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.
Mohammad Adanil and Mehboob Alam were arrested from Rajasthan Friday for the crime.
They told police that they were acquaintances of Rohit, a resident of Paschim Vihar in west Delhi.
They were aware that he belonged to an affluent family and hatched a plan to extort money from him. They invited Rohit to a party.
They asked Rohit to meet them in Noida in Uttar Pradesh Monday night for food and drinks. After drinking, they asked Rohit for money. When Rohit refused, they threatened to kill him. Rohit then gave his ATM card, but when they found only Rs.8,500 in the account, they got furious.
Scared of getting exposed, they strangled him and then shot him dead. They were travelling a car. They threw his body in a sugarcane field along the Sambhal road in Amroha.
After the murder, they made several fake ransom calls to Rohit’s father Ram Ratan Ahlawat, a senior advocate at Tees Hazari Court, demanding Rs.50 lakh for releasing Rohit.
After negotiations, the deal was finalised at Rs.25 lakh, the official said.
Ram Ratan sought police help and informed police about the incident Tuesday.
A case of kidnapping was filed in IP Estate police station in central Delhi and investigations were started.
The call details were analysed and the locations of the accused were located.
“We arrested them from Rajasthan Friday and our team is on way to Delhi along with them,” the senior police official said.
