New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) Two men were arrested for kidnapping a 12-year-old boy from his home in east Delhi, police said Tuesday. The boy was rescued.Twenty-two-year-old Abid Khan, an illiterate, and 21-year-old Shabbir Azam, an undergraduate, had kidnapped Babbar Ali Sunday from his home in north Ghonda in east Delhi. The boy went missing at around 1 p.m. and the kidnappers called his home at around 4 p.m. and demanded a ransom of Rs.2 lakh.

“To earn some quick money, Azam had taken a loan of Rs.50,000 on a high rate of interest and invested it in the share market. However, he incurred losses and was under tremendous pressure to repay the debt which had risen to Rs.80,000,” a police officer said.

He roped in Khan and had initially planned to kidnap his own two-year-old niece Dulari who was staying in the same house. But as she had gone to visit her grandmother that day, he targeted Ali.

“Khan used to work in a dhaba near the boy’s home and was known to him. The duo took the boy to a rented flat in the same locality,” he said.

As per information given by a colleague of the boy’s father who saw Khan with the boy Sunday afternoon, police interrogated the accused as well as his associate Azam.

“The duo broke down and confessed to the crime,” he added.
