Ghaziabad, Feb 22 (IANS) An 18-year-old youth and his uncle were arrested Sunday for cheating a private company of Rs.400,000 by faking a robbery, the police said here.
Sanjeev Jaat Friday alleged that he was robbed by motorcycle-borne men at Lal Kuan near Vijay Nagar and that they snatched his bag containing Rs.400,000 in cash.

He also registered a case of robbery with the police.

Jaat worked with a finance firm S.K. Micro Finance. On Friday, Jaat was going to deliver the cash to someone in Masuri area.

When the police interrogated Jaat, he confessed that he had given the money to his uncle Nahar Singh, 30, and then scratched his face to make the police and others believe that the robbers had hit him before snatching the money.

Both were arrested by the police Sunday from Vijay Nagar area.

“We have recovered Rs.4 lakh (Rs.400,000) from Sanjeev. When he told us that his maternal uncle was also involved, we asked him to call him as well,” Superintendent of Police (City) Anant Dev said.

It was also revealed that Jaat had bagged the job at the finance company by furnishing false educational certificates - that of his cousin brother.
