June 9th, 2010 - 11:47 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 9 (IANS) Two men were arrested Wednesday for duping people of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs in the railways, police said.
Ram Kripal Singh, 40, and Ramesh Kumar, 36, were arrested after a complaint was filed against them for duping two people in Desh Bandhu Gupta Road area in central Delhi.
The arrests took place after Shyam Prakash filed a complaint against Singh for duping his brothers and taking Rs.2.18 lakh as advance for getting them jobs in the railways.
“Singh promised job in the railways to the brothers of the complainant and demanded Rs.4 lakh for both. The complainant gave him Rs.2.18 lakh as advance,” a senior police officer said.
Singh called Shyam Prakash and his brothers Monday to collect their appointment letters. Singh also introduced them to Ramesh Kumar and Rakesh, who claimed to be railway employees.
They were told to collect their joining letters Wednesday and were asked to pay more money.
“This time the complainant got suspicious and made some inquiries and realised they had been cheated. Singh was contacted and asked to collect the balance amount and to hand over the appointment letters,” the officer added.
Singh and Kumar reached the selected spot and as they gave appointment letters, they were apprehended, police said.
The appointment letters were verified and found to be fake.
Both Singh and Kumar confessed to their crime. A hunt is on to trace their accomplice Rakesh.
