Two held for attacking cop with bricks in Chandigarh
April 15th, 2011 - 2:02 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, April 15 (IANS) Two youths have been arrested for attacking a police official with bricks and hitting his head several times on the wall after he stopped them from drinking at a public place in Chandigarh, police said Friday.
Rajbeer Singh, an engineering student hailing from Punjab’s Bathinda, and Gurpreet Singh, an agriculturist from the state’s Barnala town, attacked head constable Darshan Kumar near a liquor vend in Sector 22 early Thursday morning. They were arrested in the night.
The constable sustained a fracture on his skull and injuries on his forehead. He is admitted at a government hospital here.
“We have booked Rajbeer and Gurpreet for attempt to murder. They attacked Darshan with bricks and hit his head several times on the wall when he stopped them from drinking at a public place,” a police official said here.
The two were staying at neighbouring Mohali town on rent.
“We have also recovered the car in which they had fled from the spot. However, two of their accomplices are still at large. One of them had introduced himself to Darshan as a journalist. We are raiding various places to nab them,” he added.
