Two girl students injured in acid attack

Hyderabad, Dec 10 (IANS) Two girl students of an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh were injured Wednesday when three unidentified assailants threw acid on them, the police said.The family members of one of the girls alleged that the attack was carried out by a spurned lover.

The incident took place in Kakatiya Institute of Technology in Warangal town, about 150 km from here.

The injured students were shifted to hospital, where the condition of one of them is stated to be critical.

Three unidentified people threw acid on B. Tech. final year students Pranita and Swapnika when they were returning home from the college. Both the students sustained injuries on their faces. The attackers escaped before other students could raise an alarm, the police said.

The incident sent shock waves among students and their parents. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.

Swapnika, whose condition is stated to be critical, was shifted to Hyderabad for treatment. Her parents alleged that the attack was carried out by Srinivas, who claimed to be in love with her. He was allegedly harassing her as she had rejected his marriage proposal.
