Two engineering students held for rape
February 17th, 2011 - 12:09 am ICT by IANSRaipur, Feb 16 (IANS) Two engineering students were arrested in Chhattisgarh Wednesday for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl in front of her fiancee, police said. Police said that six boys, all students of Vindhya Institute of Technology near here, raped the girl Monday.
“Both the accused students have been arrested while their four colleagues who were also involved in the crime are absconding,” Dipanshu Kabra, senior superintendent of police Raipur, told reporters.
He added that the girl is a local resident and the incident created widespread resentment and anger in the area.
Police suspect that the students have also prepared an MMS of the entire episode.
Meanwhile, police were deployed at the college campus Wednesday after several angry villagers tried to storm the complex to take revenge for the incident.
The college is at Gram Paras Tarai, some 25 km from here.
The college management has rusticated all the six students and decided to suspend classes till protests by the locals subside.
