Two Delhi University students killed in accident

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Two Delhi University students were killed and one was injured when they fell from a tractor while returning home from their college, police said Tuesday.

While Preeti Sharma and Anjali Jha, both aged 19 and residents of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, were killed, Deepika, 18, resident of Sagarpur in the area, was criticaly injured.

They were students of Bhagini Nivedita College at Kair village, around six km from Najafgarh in west Delhi. Since not many buses ply from Najafgarh to Kair village, the girls would take a lift from vehicles going there, police said.

“All the three were standing on the hook that connects the tractor with the trolley. When the tractor took a right turn at a cross road, the three lost their balance and fell on the road,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Parmaditya told IANS.

They came under the wheels of the trolley, Parmaditya added.

Preeti Sharma, second year Bachelor of Commerce student, and Anjali Jha, second year Bachelor of Arts student, were declared brought dead at Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital.

Deepika, who was critical, was later shifted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

Driver Virendra, resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, was arrested and a case of negligent driving has been registered against him.
