New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Two Delhi Police personnel were allegedly assaulted by people at a marriage party in northwest Delhi when they asked those present at the venue to lower the volume of the music being played, officials said Sunday.
The police have arrested five people, including two women.

“The incident took place late Saturday night when head constable Suresh and constable Balbir Singh, both posted at the Mangolpuri station, went to stop loud music being played at a marriage party. The duo went after a complaint from the locals,” a senior police officer said.

“The two policemen reached the venue around 11 p.m. Saturday and told those present to lower the music volume as it was disturbing local residents,” the officer said.

“But instead of listening to the police, some drunken men in the group attacked the policemen without any provocation. As our men were outnumbered they suffered injuries,” the officer added.

“The beating left Suresh with two broken teeth and Balbir Singh suffered injuries in the stomach and legs. They were taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and are undergoing treatment,” he added.

Senior officers alongwith additional forces immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
