Two Decades Passed After The Fall Of The Berlin Wall

berlin-wallBerlin, Nov.9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The year, 2009 marks the 20th Anniversary of ‘the fall of the Berlin Wall’ and Germans as well as people in other part of the world have started celebrations to mark the incident. The Berlin Wall, which was constructed between East Germany and West Germany, separated people of these two regions from the year 1961 to 1989. However, on 9th November, 1989, government of East Germany declared that people can cross the Berlin wall and move to the other side. After this, people from both sides started to cross the wall which ultimately led to the fall of the wall. The fall of the historic Berlin Wall not only marked reunion between East and West Germany but also marked the end of the Cold War era.

Fall of the historic Berlin Wall has historical significance and political leaders from different parts of the world have congratulated the Germans on this day. Sources stated, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secraty of State has congratulated Germans and said, “Our history did not end the night the wall came down, it began anew.” She also stated that the day should not be looked only for commemorating the historical event but also as “call to action”. Hillary Clinton would attend the celebration to mark the historical day.

Apart from Hilary Clinton, many other political leaders from different parts of the world would attend the celebrations on Germany to celebrate the day. It has been reported that Gordon Brown [the Prime Minister of Britain], Dmitry Medvedev, [the President of Russia] and Nicolas Sarkozy, [the President of France] have been invited for participating in celebrations with Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor.
