Two dead, seven injured in crude bomb blast in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 3 (IANS) Two people were killed and seven sustained injuries in an explosion near the Sarbamangala Ghat in the city Sunday evening, the police said but denied it was a terrorist act. The explosion occurred in a scrap iron shop in the area under the North Port Police Station, police officials said.

The incident took place around 6 p.m. when some shop employees were rummaging through scrap iron kept in the shop.

“It was only a crude bomb. It is not linked to any subversive activity,” deputy commissioner (detective department) Javed Shamim said.
