November 16th, 2010 - 10:21 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 16 (IANS) Two people, including a one-year-old girl, were burnt alive when their thatched hut caught fire in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district Tuesday, police said.
According to police, Alka Devi, 19, and her niece, Shankuntala, died in the fire. They, along with the baby girl’s mother, Rohini Devi, were asleep in the house, when the roof made of dried paddy sheafs caught fire.
Alka and Shakuntala succumbed to their burn injuries, while Rohini was admitted to a local hospital with critical burn injuries.
Police said the house caught fire as they had failed to put out the wood fire used to cook their lunch and had gone to sleep.
The incident took place in Gopalpur, which comes under Chas police station of Bokaro district, around 140 km from Ranchi.
