New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) Two brothers were shot at Tuesday by motorcycle-borne assailants in Karawal Nagar area of northeast Delhi, the police said. Shafiq, 38, and Atiq, 27, both vegetable traders were critically injured when they were fired at near Goal Factory while they were going on their motorcycle towards the Lal Bagh Sabzi Mandi in the morning.
The police said that a few motorcycle-borne assailants reportedly waylaid them and shot at them.
Victims’ father Rafiq told the police that the assailants first shot at Shafiq from behind and then fired at Atiq, who was riding the bike. The bullets hit Shafiq on the back and and he fell down.
The police said Shafiq sustained three bullet injuries, while Atiq was shot at on the chest.
The assailants snatched a bag containing Rs.10,000 and some documents from them.
Another trader Khurshid, who was passing by, alerted the police about the incident.
“The victims were in a pool of blood when we reached there. We immediately rushed them to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital (GTB),” said a police official.
The family took Atiq to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, after his condition deteriorated.
The police officials said a case of attempt to murder has been registered and they were waiting for the victims to make a statement.
