Two brothers killed in Bengal
January 5th, 2011 - 11:08 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Jan 5 (IANS) Two brothers were killed by miscreants in West Bengal’s Burdwan district, officials said Wednesday. The Trinamool Congress claimed that the victims were their activists and blamed the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for the killings. However, the district administration said a family dispute led to the crime in Kantra.
“They were fatally stabbed with sharp weapons in their grocery shop Tuesday night. According to reports, a family dispute was the reason for the attack. It is not related to politics,” District Magistrate O.S. Meena told IANS over phone.
A Trinamool leader claimed that CPI-M-backed criminals had killed the two brothers as the Marxists were trying to control the political turf in the area. The CPI-M denied the allegation and blamed factional squabbles in the Trinamool for the tragedy.
Burdwan district, for long a CPI-M stronghold, has witnessed large-scale political violence since the 2009 Lok Sabha elections with Trinamool trying to make inroads into the Marxist bastion.
