Two brothers held with poppy straw, powder
March 21st, 2011 - 7:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 21 (IANS) Two brothers who hail from Punjab were caught here with 27.5 kg poppy straw and 15 kg of poppy straw powder used to make opium, police said Monday.
“Zanta Singh, 35, and his brother Gurmeet, 32, were apprehended from Kashmere Gate area in north Delhi following a tip off,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Surender Singh Yadav.
The official said they had received a tip-off that two people were carrying the contraband and were about to board a bus for Punjab.
“They were regularly supplying poppy straw and poppy straw powder in Punjab and across Delhi for the last six months,” said Yadav.
During interrogation, the men told police that they got the poppy straw and poppy straw powder from Kotputli in Rajasthan and were taking it to Sangrur in Punjab.
