Two Babbar Khalsa terrorists arrested (Lead)

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS) Two Babbar Khalsa International terrorists, planning to target some political and religious leaders, have been arrested from Delhi and Punjab, police said Friday.

Sarab Preet Singh, alias Prince, 31, was arrested from Shalimar Bagh area in north Delhi Thursday around 10 a.m., Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police Ashok Chand told IANS.

Another terrorist, Jaswinder Singh, was from Punjab, the police officer said.

“During interrogation, Sarab Preet Singh revealed that their conspiracy was to assassinate some religious leaders in Punjab and Haryana. Some of the religious leaders on their target list were Baba Ram Rahim, Baba Pyara Singh and Baba Ashutosh,” Chand told reporters here.

Chand said the two had planned to target some political leaders also in Punjab during the ensuing assembly elections in the state.

Babbar Khalsa played a major role in the Punjab insurgency in the 1980s for a separate Khalistan.
