Two arrested with fake currency in Allahabad

Lucknow, Aug 27 (IANS) Two people have been arrested in Allahabad with counterfeit currency that has a nominal value of Rs.435,000, police said Wednesday.Vishal Sharma, one of the two people arrested late Tuesday, is a clerk in the family court of Allahabad.

“During interrogation, the duo revealed that the fake currency was supplied to them from a person in Jhansi. We have gathered vital clues about some other people involved in this racket and hope to make more arrests soon,” Allahabad Senior Superintendent of Police V.K. Singh told IANS.

Meanwhile, the Barabanki District Court Tuesday sent Mubarak Khan, the alleged kingpin of a fake currency racket, to police custody for seven days.

Khan was arrested last week along with four others. Police said they had obtained permission to subject the five arrested men to narco tests.

“During initial interrogation, Khan revealed that he used to get the fake currency notes from a person near the India-Nepal border and sell the fake currency at a rate of Rs.6,000 for fake currency worth Rs.10,000,” a police officer said.

Vital information about his customers has also been extracted and more arrests are likely soon, he added.
