Two arrested for running IPL betting racket
May 21st, 2011 - 1:45 pm ICT by IANSMeerut (Uttar Pradesh), May 21 (IANS) Two people have been arrested here for accepting bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, police said Saturday.
Harendra Nagpal, 35, and Ashif, 25, were nabbed late Friday from Sadarbazar locality.
“The two were caught from a house they had hired for running the racket,” Superintendent of Police (City) Prabal Pratap Singh told reporters in Meerut, some 500 km from Lucknow.
A stack of CDs that contained record of bets and information about their clients, eight mobile phones, and a TV set were recovered from their possession.
“Total bets accepted by them amount to over Rs.1 crore,” police Inspector N.C. Verma said.
