Two armed robberies in Delhi

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) Two armed robberies occurred within a span of four hours here Wednesday night and cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees were stolen, police said Thursday.

Both the robberies took place in east Delhi.

The first incident occurred around 3.15 a.m. in Gokulpuri area, where seven robbers entered a house through the roof.

“Indrapal, 28, Jitendra, 27, Dharmendra, 25, and their wives Anita, Dolly and Sheetal respectively were sleeping when the robbers entered and forcibly made a few them inhale some drugs to make them unconscious, while the others were held captive at gun point,” a senior police officer said.

Indrapal told police that when Jitendra resisted, they attacked him with pistol butts. A few minutes later, Dharmendra also tried to overpower them, but he too was beaten.

“His leg was fractured in the scuffle,” the officer said.

The robbers then ransacked the house and fled with around Rs.1.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth around Rs.2.5 lakh, the victims told police.

In the second incident, three armed robbers, wearing masks, barged into the house of Rajkumar Srivastava in Gandhinagar area around 11.30 p.m.

“Rajkumar told police that as soon as he reached his house on Wednesday night, three robbers entered his house and closed the door. When he and his brother resisted, they fired several rounds in air and then ransacked the house. The trio fled with cash and other valuables,” a police officer said.
