TV campaign supports TERI’s ‘Greenathon’ project

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS) In support of a campaign by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), NDTV is hosting a 24-hour nonstop ‘Greenathon’ urging Indian citizens to work towards a greener future.The Greenathon aims to raise funds for the ‘Light a Billion Lives’ project - a campaign by TERI to take solar lighting devices around the world to rural communities, said a press release.

“We believe environment abuse and resulting climate change is the single biggest danger we face today. In the 24 hours beginning Saturday, we hope people and corporates across the country will join hands with us and pledge to make a visible change in their lifestyles towards a greener tomorrow,” said Prannoy Roy, chairman, NDTV.

The TV campaign will include on-the-ground activities such as clean up drives in Mumbai and Delhi, a 24-hour marathon run by model-actor Milind Soman, a musical extravaganza by Bollywood stars. It will begin Saturday 7 p.m. on the NDTV network.

R.K. Pachauri, who is also the director-general of TERI and Roy will inaugurate the TV campaign, to be hosted by Vikram Chandra and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who is also the campaign ambassador.
