Kolkata, Nov 5 (IANS) A 35-year-old private tutor, who was having an affair with his 19-year-old student, committed suicide Tuesday after killing her in West Bengal’s South 24-Parganas district, the police said Wednesday.”The body of Kuntal Ghosh Dastidar was found hanging from the ceiling at his residence near Garia area of the district Tuesday. The same morning police recovered the body of his student Anushree Pal from a room at his coaching centre near Garia station,” the district’s additional police superintendent (industrial) Sunil Kumar Chaudhuri said.

“However, according to the post-mortem report, Pal’s head was dashed repeatedly against a hard surface till she died Saturday evening.”

“It was the landlady of the coaching centre, Manjushree Joarder, who detected the stench coming from the room and called the nearby Regent Park police station. The police recovered the partly decomposed body of Pal Tuesday morning,” Chaudhuri said.

Chaudhuri said Ghosh Dastidar and Pal had an affair.

“Ghosh Dastidar was separated from his wife Leela but a delay in the divorce proceedings made Pal, who was forcing him to marry her, impatient and they had frequent fights over this issue,” he said.

According to primary investigations, Ghosh Dastifar killed Anushree Pal Saturday evening and then, overcome by guilt, he killed himself, Chaudhuri added.

Pal, a second-year physics honours student of the Basanti Devi College in south Kolkata, knew Ghosh Dastidar, an electrical engineer from Jadavpur University, for three years.

“Pal took tuition in physics from Ghosh Dastidar since the time she was in Class XII. Though her father Ajoy Pal, an accountant posted in Assam, did not approve of their growing proximity, it was impossible to stop Pal from going to his tuition classes,” said Pal’s cousin Debraj.
