New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) Second division I-League club Shillong Lajong can heave a sigh of relief after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said Friday that their player Seikhohao Tuboi was eligible to play for them in the league.

The player’s status committee of the AIFF said that Tuboi was eligible to play for the Shillong club, which was promoted to the elite league, during the 2010-11, but was ineligible for Army XI in the IFA League during the same season 2010-11.

The player was suspended by the AIFF earlier this month, on charges of playing for two clubs during the same season, and the duration of suspension will be decided by the national federation’s executive committee.

To prevent similar situations in future, the status committee recommended to the executive committee to make it mandatory for all state associations to obtain a declaration from any player registering with it for Services or Railway teams that the player is not registered with any other state association.

“Where such declaration is not made the normal procedure of inter-state transfer should be followed. And such Services or Railway teams shall thereafter be deemed on par with other clubs within the state associations,” the players status committee said in a statement.
