Truck runs over six in Punjab town

Jalandhar, Sep 25 (IANS) A truck ran over six people when it crashed into huts along a highway in this Punjab city, the police said here Thursday.The accident took place Wednesday night on the Kapurthala Road when the truck driver lost control over the vehicle and drove over a few `jhuggis’ (huts) along the road. Most of the victims were asleep when the accident occurred.

The truck, eyewitnesses told the police, was being rashly driven and first crushed a cyclist on the road before mowing down others.

Balbir Singh, the truck driver, was arrested by the police.
