Truck rams into house, killing three in Tripura
July 23rd, 2009 - 3:52 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Agartala, July 23 (IANS) A sleeping woman and her two daughters were killed when a loaded truck rammed into their road-side house in Tripura, police said Thursday.
“Soma Saha, 35, and her two young daughters died on the spot Wednesday night when a loaded truck rammed into their residence where the victims were sleeping at Amtali, located on the outskirts of Agartala,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police Nepal Das.
“The accident took place due to rash and negligent driving of the truck driver, who fled immediately after the accident,” Das told reporters.
According to a government statement, this year 85 people died in road accidents so far, compared to 196 in the whole of last year in Tripura.
“Road accidents have become a matter of grave concern. We are introducing speed radars and other systems so that safe driving is ensured. Stricter legal action will be taken against the offenders,” Tripura Transport Minister Manik De told IANS.
