Truck ploughs into Congress supporters, two die

Kolkata, Dec 27 (IANS) Two people were killed Monday when a truck ploughed into a crowd of Congress supporters returning from a public meeting in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, police said.Hundreds of people were walking along a national highway after attending the meeting addressed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee when the accident took place, Additional Police Superintendent Deepnarayan Goswami said.
“One of the men died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries at the Behrampore hospital,” he said. The accident sparked off protests, and police used batons to disperse the demonstrators.
