Trouble for Sahara over Queen’s Baton
July 10th, 2010 - 3:32 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 10 (IANS) Sahara is in trouble for displaying an imitation of the Queen’s Baton for the Commonwealth Games here Saturday. Authorities plan to take legal action against company officials for disrespecting the baton, an official said.
After the customary run of the baton here, it was taken to Rai Bareilly. But some officials of Sahara displayed a “prototype baton” at Sahara Shahr in Gomti Nagar, a district official said.
“Legal action would be taken against the Sahara officials for showing disrespect to the Queen’s Baton Relay and displaying it without permission,” the official added.
The baton reached Lucknow Friday and was handed over to the state Olympic association general secretary Anandeshwar Pandey, senior government officials and public representatives at Itaunja town.
The Commonwealth Games will be held in New Delhi in October.
