Troops kill 16 militants in Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 22 (Xinhua) Security forces killed 16 militants in northwest Pakistan Friday, the army said.Security forces stopped a vehicle suspected to be carrying “miscreants” at Sour bridge checkpost near Doaba in Hangu district in the North-West Frontier Province, a statement released by the army said.

A suicide bomber from the vehicle tried to attack the troops and was killed. In the subsequent fighting, the vehicle exploded as another suicide bomber was believed to be sitting inside it, it said.

The security forces arrested one militant. Initial investigation revealed that both the suicide bombers were of foreign origin, the statement said.
