Trooper dies in accidental firing outside Badal residence

Chandigarh, Sep 11 (IANS) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was killed here Thursday evening when his rifle went off accidentally outside Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s residence, the police said.”The deceased, Sunder Singh Kaushal from Uttrakhand, was posted at the residence of the Punjab chief minister in Sector 2 Chandigarh,” Harsahai Sharma, station house officer of Sector 3 police station, told IANS.

“He was on duty when he slipped and the trigger of his rifle went off by a mistake. The bullet hit him right in the chest. He was immediately taken to PGIMER (Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) where he was declared brought dead by the doctors,” he added.

The trooper’s Indian National Small Arms System (INSAS) rifle went off accidentally and the bullet hit him, the officer said.

Senior police officials from the Chandigarh and Punjab police rushed to the spot to make inquiry after hearing of the firing incident outside the chief minister’s residence.

Badal enjoys a Z-plus security cover and is guarded by hundreds of security personnel drawn from the paramilitary forces and the Punjab police.
