The killing was reported from a forested village under Bhopalpatnam area in Bijapur district, over 500 km south from Raipur.
The middle-aged tribal was kidnapped and hit on the head with a sharp edged weapon. His body was found dumped on National Highway 16 in Bijapur district, officials at police headquarters here told IANS.
The Maoists left a letter near the dead man claiming that they killed him as he was spying for the local police.
Bijapur along with Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur and Kanker districts is part of the 40,000 sq km mineral rich Bastar region where Maoists have monopoly in interiors since late 1980s.
