Tribal girl alleges rape by mahant
April 29th, 2011 - 10:26 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, April 29 (IANS) A 12-year-old tribal girl has alleged rape by the head of an ashram in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district where she was a resident, police said Friday.
However, police claim it was attempted rape.
The girl was studying at the Sonmore ashram of Mahant Someshwar Giri in Amarkantak, in Anuppur district, over 600 km from the state capital.
“The girl was called by the mahant to his room Thursday night and he shut the door and tried to molest her. When the girl started shouting, he left her,” Anuppur Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Singh told IANS.
The girl and her parents have registered a police complaint alleging rape.
The police official said the girl’s medical test did not prove rape.
Police have yet to arrest the mahant.
