Trainer drowned during mock rescue session

Nagpur, June 19 (IANS) A State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) trainer drowned in the Futala tank here Thursday while giving a demonstration to disaster management trainees in rescuing people caught in flood waters, the police said. Pradip Daduriya, the trainer on a rescue boat, removed the life saving jacket he was wearing and dived in the tank telling the cadets to watch the mock rescue operation he was performing using some sinking dummy.

But he failed to come up.

By the time the trainees realised something was wrong and alerted the officers on the tank’s bank who threw inflated tubes to help the trainer come afloat, Pradip’s body with a head injury surfaced, Ambazari police station officer Surendra Yadav told IANS.
