Train runs over husband, wife
November 6th, 2011 - 12:59 pm ICT by IANSJaipur, Nov 6 (IANS) A man who lay over railway tracks in a bid to kill himself after a domestic feud and his wife who tried to save him were both run over by a train in Rajasthan, police said Sunday.
The tragedy took place Saturday evening in Anghora village of Kota district, 240 km from Jaipur. The dead were identified as Jagdish Gujjar, 35, and his wife Phoranti Bai.
A police officer told IANS that Gujjar had been warning his wife that he would commit suicide if she kept fighting with him. On Saturday he carried out the threat.
“Phoranti Bai tried to drag her husband away from the tracks, but a speeding train ran over them. The woman died on the spot while the husband succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital,” said the officer.
Family members said the couple regularly fought over petty issues.
