Lucknow, Dec 24 (IANS) An engine of a passenger train caught fire when it hit a truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at an unmanned railway crossing Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district. No one, barring the truck driver, was injured, an official said.
“It could have turned into a major accident, but with god’s grace only a few of the 100 cylinders kept in the truck exploded after the crash,” Government Railway Police Inspector Jaiveer Singh told reporters in Farrukhabad, some 300 km from here.

“The accident took place at the Maudarwaza town when the truck hit the passenger train coming from Kanshiramnagar district and going to Shikohabad town in Ferozabad district,” he said.

Fire fighters took over two hours to put out the blaze.

“Three fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames from both the truck and the engine,” Singh said.
