Lucknow, March 10 (IANS) Rail traffic was disrupted on the busy Lucknow-Varanasi route Wednesday after a passenger train derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar district. No one was injured, an official said.
The accident took place near Jafarganj railway station in Ambedkarnagar, some 200 km from here, where three coaches of the Bareilly-Varanasi Express derailed. The train was heading to Varanasi from Bareilly.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the derailment took place due to some problems with the brakes of the train,” Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Ram Asrey told reporters.

“At the time of the incident, the speed of the train was low, otherwise it could have been a major accident. The derailment subsequently damaged the tracks,” he said.

“Under the supervision of senior railway officials, work is in progress to restore the route,” he added.
