Train derails in Uttar Pradesh, all passengers safe
April 27th, 2011 - 11:17 pm ICT by IANSFatehpur (Uttar Pradesh), April 27 (IANS) A passenger train derailed near this Uttar Pradesh city Wednesday evening, disrupting rail traffic on the busy Howrah-Delhi route, police said. No casualty was been reported in the accident.
Two coaches and the engine of Sangam Express derailed damaging the rail track for several metres. The train was going to Meerut from Allahabad.
“The derailment engine took place near Khaga railway station,” Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Sanjeev Tyagi told reporters in Fatehpur, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“Railway officials have reached the site and operations are underway to restore the rail route,” he added.
According to officials, the exact cause behind the derailment was not yet known.
