Traffic woes in Delhi continue
September 29th, 2010 - 4:46 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) The dedicated Commonwealth Games lanes Wednesday again caused major traffic jams, with police urging people to travel by Delhi Metro.
The worst hit were the Dhaula Kuan flyover, Mathura Road, ITO, Teen Murti Marg and August Kranti Marg, said a Delhi Traffic Police official.
“Even if you travel by public transport, you cannot avoid the traffic jams,” said Kunal Dubey, who works in Nehru Place.
A part of several key roads have been reserved for Games vehicles from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. till Oct 16.
With nearly 1,500 Blueline buses taken off the roads till Oct 16 to ease traffic congestion, the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) buses are running fully packed.
Some complained that auto drivers were exploiting the situation to fleece commuters.
“We advise people to use the Metro, buses and car pools to avoid traffic jams,” Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.
