Traders robbed of 100 kg silver, Rs.12 lakh cash
April 17th, 2011 - 10:42 pm ICT by IANSAgra, April 17 (IANS) Four businessmen were looted of 100 kg of silver worth Rs.64 lakh and Rs.12 lakh in cash by unidentified men early Sunday near this Uttar Pradesh city, police said.
The merchants were coming to Agra from Allahabad and took a taxi from Tundla railway station in Firozabad district, about 20 km from here.
Two people on a motorbike overtook their vehicle and stopped them near Khandoli village. They were later joined by their accomplices who came in a van, a police officer said.
The four businessmen were beaten and robbed of their valuables. Villagers told the police that the robbers opened fire but still managed to catch one of them who was handed over to the police.
The businessmen are from Sadabad, 25 km from here, that is famous for its silverware making units.
