Washington, Feb 29 (IANS/EFE) Demetrius Hewlin, 16, died Tuesday from wounds he received in a multiple shooting at Ohio’s Chardon High School, bringing the toll from the incident to three.

The family confirmed Hewlin’s death in a communique, calling him a happy young man who loved life, his family and his friends.

They also said they were proud that Hewlin was able to help other people with the donation of his organs.

Hewlin was admitted to the MetroHealth Medical Center Monday along with two students - Daniel Parmertor, 16, and Russell King Jr., 17 - who were also struck by bullets in the school cafeteria when a lone gunman opened fire.

Parmertor died within hours and King was declared dead early Tuesday.

Two more students were also shot.

Joy Rickers, 18, remains in stable condition at Hillcrest Hospital in the Cleveland suburb of Mayfield Heights, where 17-year-old Nicholas Wajczak continues in serious condition.

The shooting occurred in the Chardon High cafeteria just as classes were about to start.

Several students who witnessed the shooting told authorities that the perpetrator was a student they identified as T.J. Lane, who entered the cafeteria and opened fire.

Lane admitted to bringing a gun and knife to school and to firing 10 shots, prosecutor David Joyce said Tuesday at a court hearing.

Three of the people involved in the incident - the shooter and two of the three fatalities - were not even students at Chardon, but they went to the school every morning to catch buses to other institutions.
