Tigress killed in Chhattisgarh park
November 17th, 2011 - 1:03 am ICT by IANSRaipur, Nov 16 (IANS) The carcass of a tigress was found in Chhattisgarh’s Bhoramdeo sanctuary with its claws and other body parts missing, pointing to killing by poachers, a forest official said Wednesday.
“The carcass of a tigress, aged roughly five-six years, was found at Bhoramdeo sanctuary in Kawardha district. The killing took place a few days back and several vital parts of the body such as claws were missing, which indicates the killing was executed by poachers,” a top forest official told IANS.
He added that the tigress’ body bore bullet hole injuries, but only a detailed investigation would reveal whether the animal was shot dead or killed by a sharp-edged weapon.
The latest tigress killing has worried wildlife experts as in September, a mob of villagers in state’s Rajnandgaon district lynched a Royal Bengal tigress in the presence of forest officials.
