Tight security for Tuesday’s West Bengal polling
May 2nd, 2011 - 10:28 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, May 2 (IANS) Special security arrangements have been made in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district for Tuesday’s fourth phase polling, a senior election officer said here Monday.
“We have prepared a list of vulnerable people and places in Nandigran and Khejuri of East Midnapore district. Special security arrangements have been made for their protection,” said Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kumar Gupta.
Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, who was appointed special observer for the fourth phase polls, has reviewed preparedness in the district.
Other senior officers like divisional commissioner for Burdwan range and deputy inspector general of police for Midnapore range have set up their camps in the area.
Central paramilitary forces and the special armed force of Kolkata Police conducted a flag march in the disturbed areas besides deploying contingents of security personnel in and around the polling booths.
Polling will be held in 63 assembly constituencies spread across East Midnapore, Hooghly and Howrah districts and in some ports of Burdwan district in the fourth phase polls Tuesday.
