New Delhi, Jan 30 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday issued a stern warning to a 1993 Mumbai serial terror bombing convict Yusuf Abdul Razak Memon for violating the conditions on which he was granted bail last year Feb 29.A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam rebuked Yusuf Memon for visiting home from a Mumbai hospital where he had been allowed to be admitted as per the court order during the period of his bail.

The brother of absconding blast mastermind Tiger Memon, Yusuf was granted bail on medical grounds after a medical panel appointed by the apex court certified him to be patient of chronic schizophrenia and recommended a supportive environment like hospital rather than jail for his treatment.

Yusuf had been convicted for life for allowing his houses to be used for conspiracy meetings and storage of arms and explosives. He had also allowed use of his van for planting bombs in the metropolis.

A bench of Chief Justice Balakrishnan had granted bail to Yusuf on medical grounds stipulating that he would remain in the hospital for the treatment.

The bench, while granting bail to Yusuf last year till July, had said it would review his medical condition every three months before extending his bail.

It was during one such court proceeding for the review of Yusuf’s medical condition that CBI counsel, Additional Solicitor General Amrendra Saran told the bench that the convict had visited his home from the hospital without any court order.

Upset by the disclosure, the bench warned Yusuf’s counsel that his client’s bail would be cancelled if he violated bail conditions again.
