New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A fun-filled outing turned into a nightmare for six friends when three of them drowned while taking a swim in the Yamuna river in east Delhi Monday evening. The six youths were from Ashok Nagar and Nand Nagri in east Delhi. They were roaming around Yamuna Pushta near Sonia Vihar when they decided to take a dip in the river at around 5 p.m.

While three, Sudesh (18) Anil (18) and Sunil (21) swam back, their three friends Gaurav (18), Kuldeep (19) and Mayank Bisht (19) decided to get more adventurous and went deeper, which turned out to be fatal.

A flood department boat that was looking for the body of a child who had drowned in the morning spotted the boys. Two fire tenders along with Delhi Police reached the spot and recovered the bodies of Gaurav and Mayank, a police official told IANS.

“We are trying to find the third body,” added the police official.

Sudesh recalled, “We warned the three not to venture too deep, but they didn’t listen to us and went ahead. We tried to save them, but they were already too far away, so the three of us decided to head back. On reaching the shore, we cried for help.”
