Three-month-old infant among two killed in Gujarat bus mishap

Ahmedabad, April 14(IANS) Two people, including a three-month-old infant, were killed Monday when a bus plunged into a river in Gujarat. At least 15 people were injured in the accident. The Rajasthan State Transport luxury bus was going from Jodhpur to Ahmedabad when the accident occurred about 2 km from Mehsana town in north Gujarat.

According to the police complaint filed by the driver, the bus was crossing a bridge over Khari river, when a truck coming from behind knocked it sideways while trying to overtake it. The bus broke the railings and tumbled into the river, 50 feet below.

The bus was carrying 17 passengers, including nine Pakistani nationals from Karachi.

The conductor of the bus, Mohammad Ramzan Mohammad Ali, and three-month-old baby girl Irfana died on the spot.

The 15 injured people were taken to a civil hospital and were later discharged after initial treatment.
