Three men trapped in burning car saved by police
November 30th, 2011 - 12:51 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) Responding swiftly, three Delhi Police personnel saved lives of three men, including the owner of a software company, trapped in a burning car in east Delhi, police said Tuesday.
The car in the youths were travelling met an accident near Yamuna Sports Complex as they were coming from Jama Masjid area in central Delhi early Monday, police said.
All the three occupants of the car were safely rescued from the burning car by the timely action by Head Constable Mohan Lal, and Constables Yogender Kumar and Prempal Singh, who were patrolling the area.
The three men were identified as Ashish Garg, owner of a software company, Sahil Kalra, who runs a travel firm and Akshat Garg, who is employed with a private company, all in the late twenties or early thirties.
Garg, who was driving the car, praised the policemen who saved him and his friends.
He told police that the accident occurred as he swerved to avoid hitting a dog, but lost control of the vehicle which hit a tree on the roadside, overturned and caught fire.
“The timely action of the policemen saved our lives. It was around 3.40 am Sunday when the accident took place. We were trapped inside the car, which had overturned and also caught fire and we were unable to get out. Soon we heard a PCR (police control room) van stopping near us,” he said.
“Three policemen came and saved our lives. I think they should be rewarded and acknowledged for their job,” Garg added.
Mohan Lal, who was posted at the police van, said: “I, along with Prem Pal Singh and driver Yoginder Kumar, were on patrolling duty and saw an overturned car on fire near Yamuna Sports complex.”
“We discovered three men were trapped inside the car. We managed to get two of them out of the car through the window pane but one of them could not be removed. Then all three of us pushed back the car and managed to pull out the third man too,” he said.
